  1. The 1.9p per mile calculation is based on the Tesla Model Y, which has an EV efficiency of 0.22 kWh per mile. Multiplying 0.22 by So EV's off-peak rate of 8.8p per kWh (between the hours of midnight and 5am) results in the cost of 1.94p per mile (which we round down to 1.9p per mile). We use the Tesla Model Y because it was the UK's best-selling car in 2025.
  2. The 600 miles for under £12 calculation is based on a Tesla Model Y efficiency rating of 4.5 miles per kWh. Actual efficiency varies depending on EV make and model, seasonal conditions, driving style, and charging rate. Our estimate uses the So EV charging rate of 8.8p per kWh, offered between 12am and 5am. The precise calculation is 599 miles for £11.70.
  3. A public Rapid charger costs EV drivers, on average, £0.82 per kWh. So Energy’s off-peak tariff rate is 8.8p per kWh. Calculations: So Energy off-peak cost per mile of 1.9p and public Rapid charging cost per mile of 18.2p show that you’ll save 89% versus public charging when combining your charger with our EV tariff.
  4. The 74% savings claim vs charging on a standard variable tariff is based on our So Flex electricity unit rate of £0.3353 per kW vs the So EV electricity unit rate of £0.088 per kW.
  5. We ask you to choose So Flex first, so we can make sure your smart meter is sending half-hourly reads. Once it's checked, we can switch you to So EV. This takes about 7 days.
